Terminate the Registration of an Individual

STEP 1: Login to LSRA e-Services

• Please login to Government-to-Business (G2B) digital services in Singapore using SingPass. For more information, please visit here.

• Individuals registered under a law practice which is ceasing practice are not required to submit individual termination forms. Their CoRs will be automatically terminated on the same date as the approved cessation date of the law practice.

STEP 2: Complete and submit termination form

• Before completing the termination form, you may wish to refer to the User Guide on the LSRA e-Services portal. Please note that the sample forms are provided for reference only and cannot be used for submission to the LSRA.
• No fees will be charged for the termination.
• The completed application form must be signed by the Managing Partner / Managing Director or Partner / Director (or equivalent) with the requisite authority of the applicant law practice entity.
• Please also note that the termination of the CoR may not necessarily terminate the obligations of the regulated legal practitioners and regulated non-practitioners under the Legal Profession Act (Cap. 161) and the rules made thereunder (such as, but not limited to, the Legal Profession (Professional Conduct) Rules 2015, Legal Profession (Accountant’s Report) Rules, Legal Profession (Solicitors’ Accounts) Rules and Legal Profession (Regulated Individuals) Rules 2015).

• Nil.

STEP 3: Receive outcome of termination

• The application may take about 3-6 weeks to process, commencing when all required supporting documents and information have been received. Applications that are incomplete, complex or submitted during the peak period from January to March may require more time to process. Therefore, you may wish to submit your application at least 6 weeks in advance.
• The LSRA will seek clarification or further information from the Main Contact for the Application.

STEP 4: Notify relevant stakeholders

• Singapore advocates and solicitors are required under the Legal Profession Act to notify the Registrar of the Supreme Court and the Council of the Law Society through eLitigation of their intention to cease practice.
• Singapore advocates and solicitors should also notify Lockton Companies (Singapore) Pte Ltd (the Law Society of Singapore’s professional indemnity broker) and their clients of the intention to cease practice.
